Head of Legal
Job Overview
Our client, an iGaming provider, is seeking a strategic and commercially driven Head of Legal to lead and scale the legal function in Malta. This senior leadership position will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting the organisation’s growth, and acting as a trusted advisor to the executive team across multiple jurisdictions.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in navigating complex regulatory landscapes, facilitating product and market expansion, and fostering a strong culture of legal governance throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including licensing, partnerships, and supplier contracts.
Work closely with internal departments such as compliance, finance, and operations to ensure legal alignment with business goals.
Provide expert legal guidance to senior leadership and key stakeholders on commercial, regulatory, and corporate matters.
Oversee corporate governance, data protection, and risk management frameworks.
Manage relationships with regulators, external legal counsel, and industry bodies.
Define and implement the legal strategy, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
Track and interpret developments in gaming legislation and regulatory requirements to maintain ongoing compliance.
Oversee AML and KYC processes for operators and providers.
Support dispute resolution and litigation activities where necessary.
As the organisation grows, recruit, lead, and mentor a team of legal professionals, providing direction and structure to the function.
Requirements
Fully qualified lawyer (EU or UK qualification preferred).
8–10 years of post-qualification experience, ideally within regulated sectors.
Proven background in iGaming, gambling, fintech, or similarly regulated digital industries.
Strong knowledge of:
Maltese and EU regulatory frameworks
Gaming and gambling compliance obligations
GDPR and data protection legislation
Demonstrated experience advising executive leadership and boards.
Solid expertise in commercial contracting and regulatory affairs.
Experience operating in international, multi-jurisdictional environments.
Previous people management or legal function leadership experience is highly desirable.
