Job Summary
The Decommission Technician is responsible for disassembling decommissioned power distribution equipment, salvaging reusable components, and ensuring proper handling and disposal of oils, solvents, and other materials. This role supports safe, efficient material flow through the decommissioning process while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Success in this position requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented industrial environment.
- Disassemble decommissioned power distribution units.
- Salvage metals and reusable components from decommissioned equipment.
- Properly handle and dispose of oils, solvents, and other liquid compounds in accordance with facility and regulatory standards.
- Move units along roller conveyor tracks from in‑process areas to the decommissioning building.
- Use hand and pneumatic tools to complete assigned tasks.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material‑handling equipment as required.
- Maintain responsibility for tools and equipment in the assigned work area.
- Keep the workstation safe, clean, and orderly at all times.
- Work closely with other associates in a team‑oriented environment.
- Meet productivity expectations while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Work overtime or call‑in hours as required.
- Package or bale materials for shipment.
- Load trailers for shipment.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- Prior experience is construction or manufacturing environments not required but will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with industrial equipment.
- Ability to use hand and pneumatic tools.
- Understanding of basic shop and industrial safety practices.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Self‑directed with the ability to complete tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
- Honest, trustworthy, reliable, and hardworking.
- Physical ability to perform heavy work, exerting up to 100lbs of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50lbs force frequently.
- Comfortable working in extreme heat and cold.
