The Northampton fuel terminal is connected to the UK Oil Pipeline enabling deliveries of gasoline and distillate products from both the Thames in the south and Stanlow in the North West refineries, via a spur line. The terminal has five operating loading bays, with facilities for loading gasoline, super unleaded, diesel, and interface. The terminal has eight main storage tanks holding a total of 28,000 m3 of fuel products. Ethanol is imported via road tanker and discharged into storage tanks for blending into gasoline fuel. The Northampton terminal is a Lower Tier COMAH site and the site operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year.


The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for an Shift Operator to join Northampton Fuel Terminal.

The Shift Operator is responsible for supporting the Shift Supervisory Team in the safe, efficient,
and compliant operation of the terminal during shift hours. This includes monitoring and controlling product movements, supervising the loading systems/process, conducting routine inspections, and responding to operational or safety issues. The role requires strict adherence to health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, as well as effective communication with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure continuous and reliable terminal operations.


You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Conducting routine visual inspections of import and export pipework and valves to ensure safe and compliant operations, as well as taking line and tank samples and testing them against client specifications.
• The operator is responsible for accurately recording results and promptly reporting any deviations, abnormalities, or potential issues in line with site procedures.
• The operator will also carry out routine checks, maintenance support, and housekeeping tasks, while promptly identifying and reporting faults or hazards. 
• They support emergency response activities, comply with site procedures and COMAH regulations, and contribute to a strong safety culture across all shift operations.

Minimum Requirements:

• Relevant operational qualification or demonstrable experience in a high-hazard process environment (e.g. fuel terminal, refinery, chemical plant).
• A good awareness of health and safety practices, with any relevant safety qualifications (such as IOSH) being beneficial.
• Practical certifications, such as first aid or forklift operation, are also desirable.
• Working individually & as a member of the shift team to achieve business targets. 
• Experience of adhering to procedures.
• Be aware of relevant Legislation & best practice within a process environment.
• Experience of Maintenance management systems.
