We are excited to offer an opportunity for a passionate and experienced Lecturer in Animal Care to join our team. In this role, you’ll play an important part in shaping the future of our students, helping them gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the Animal Care industry. You’ll be responsible for delivering engaging lessons, supporting students through assessments, and providing guidance as they progress. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, inspirational teaching and ensure access to learning, alongside undertaking associated tutorial duties
  • Provide teaching and assessment opportunities in line with relevant awarding body requirements to promote access to achievement
  • Perform necessary administrative tasks for the effective operation of programmes, including preparation of schemes of work and assessments
  • Manage a teaching load that is fair and equitable with the responsibilities of the role
  • Act as a course tutor, supporting learners in achieving their targets by tracking progress and maintaining student records
  • Collaborate with external agencies, college partners, and local businesses to meet the diverse needs of learners

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Previous academic experience in Animal Care is highly desirable
  • Experience of teaching or assessing Level 3 Technical Qualifications in Animal Management is desirable
  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification (L5 or above) is preferred, although candidates willing to work towards obtaining this qualification will also be considered  
  • Hold a recognised Veterinary Nursing qualification is essential
  • Experience working in an Animal Care role that is relatable to the areas taught is essential
Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

Accepted Qualifications:
  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education) 
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject
If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).

Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications:
  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) 
  • SFHEA (Senior Fellowship)
  • Masters in Education
  • TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
