Job Overview

Mō mātou | About Hōhepa

Working at Hōhepa, is different from the average, you become part of our community of people, staff, volunteers, and contractors who all have a common goal - helping people to reach their full potential and lead enriched and meaningful lives in a holistic, supportive environment. We are a community leader providing services and support for people living with an intellectual disability to live their best lives and find a valued place in our society. Inspired by Dr Rudolf Steiner’s principles of anthroposophy, we seek to understand each person and situation as unique, not a one size fits all philosophy.

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

Te Waipounamu is a newly opened service on Barrington Street within the last year, near the Hōhepa campus. It’s home to four vibrant women, and we’re looking for two experienced, compassionate support workers to join our team!

In this role, you’ll work collaboratively to support the daily routines and overall wellbeing of the people we support. The ladies in this service thrive on structure, routine, and active involvement in household tasks. They value strong relationships with their staff and flat mates and enjoy engaging in community activities — from attending festivals to developing life skills that promote independence.

We’re seeking individuals who are energetic, empathetic, and committed to creating a life of rich and diverse experiences. You’ll need to be confident in reading situations, problem-solving, and applying appropriate boundaries while offering space and support when needed.

Daily responsibilities include assisting with personal care, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks, while encouraging independence and personal growth. You’ll play a key role in supporting the ladies to access and actively participate in their wider community, including activities like swimming — so being a confident swimmer is essential.

If you are looking for a new challenge this could be the opportunity for you.

This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level, pays between $23.50 and $29.10 per hour.
