Key Responsibilities
The Junior Marine Systems Engineer is responsible for professionally and efficiently executing work in support of client taskings in the field of Marine Systems Engineering.

- Support Marine Systems department in providing engineering services to internal and external customers.
- Participate in technical work under the guidance of senior staff members.
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Comply with relevant business and ethics codes of conduct.
- Undertake engineering activities in a way that contributes to best practice under the guidance of senior staff members.
- Work within the BMT Quality Management System (QMS) processes and procedures.
- Demonstrate willingness and active adoption of coaching and mentoring provided by senior staff in developing technical competency within specific discipline.
- Contributes to building a positive team culture through input, feedback and participation in team building and wellness activities.
Role Specific:
- Apply basic knowledge and understanding of Marine / Mechanical design on small simple platforms (tug, barge, ferry) to large complex ships (surface combatants, submarines, cargo and passenger vessels) in one or more areas:
- Component selection;
- Equipment arrangement;
- Propulsion and Auxiliary systems;
- Application of standards for pumps, valves, flanges, and piping;
- Heat/Cooling load calculations; and
- Metallurgical considerations.
- As part of a team, contribute to working with Shipyards, Dockyards, Owners, Class and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to conduct ship surveys for design and engineering changes, mid-life upgrades and vessel condition documentation.
- Support the development of feasibility studies, concept designs, installation design and integration of new and replacement equipment, including communicating design outputs using 2D drawings or 3D models.
- Gain familiarization of domain specific standards including International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, Class Society rules, Transport Canada Regulations and Canadian Forces Technical Orders.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Essential:
- University Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Eligible for a Canadian security clearance.
- Registered with Professional Engineering in Province of work and actively working towards obtaining a Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation.
Desirable:
- Two years of experience (Co-Op or Industry acceptable).
- Knowledge of surface ships.
- Knowledge of submarines.
- Knowledge of shipyard processes and procedures.
