Job Overview

The Assistant Project Manager’s primary responsibility is to support the Project Manager and Superintendent in the successful completion of assigned projects. This role involves managing project financials, risk management, and client relations. The Assistant Project Manager will assist in ensuring that projects meet safety, quality, and scheduling goals. This position reports directly to the Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions
  • Assist Project Manager in managing financials, risk management, and client relations from pre-construction to project closeout. 
  • Ensure RUTS Construction’s standards of safety and quality are upheld by promoting a strong safety culture within the project team and among subcontractors. 
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent, project team members, and field personnel to ensure project success. 
  • Represent RUTS Construction in a professional manner during all interactions with clients, subcontractors, and team members. 
 
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the effective management of the project team and field operations. 
  • Maintain project files and ensure a consistent flow of information for assigned projects. 
  • Participate in developing and maintaining project schedules. 
  • Draft subcontracts and assist with subcontractor coordination and project buyout activities. 
  • Support project financials, cost procedures, and field quality control. 
  • Perform site safety inspections and promote safe work practices. 
  • Utilize HCSS Software (Heavy Bid and Heavy Job) for project management and cost tracking, ensuring accurate and consistent usage. 
  • Participate in project closeout processes, including photo documentation. 
  • Attend relevant company and industry meetings, training sessions, and workshops. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Qualifications
  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Project Engineer or equivalent role within the construction industry. 
  • Familiarity with construction industry practices, including job site safety, contract management, planning and scheduling, and project budgeting. 
  • Proficiency in HCSS Software (Heavy Bid and Heavy Job), On-Screen Takeoff, and MS Office Suite. 
  • Strong competencies in initiative, communication, teamwork, and dependability. 
 
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to walk, climb stairs, sit, and stand. 
  • Must be able to talk and hear at normal levels, see with close vision, distance vision, and have the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment. 
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. 
  • Work environments may expose employees to weather elements such as heat, humidity, and cold, as well as fumes, dust, and mechanical hazards. 
  • Noise levels can be loud, and there may be occasional exposure to caustic chemicals and risks of electrical shock.
