Custodial – Accounting Associate

Job Overview

Position Summary

This position is primarily responsible for monitoring and managing the company’s custodial bank account balances as well as for identifying reporting issues in a timely manner to the Custodial Accounting Manager. The position will support the Custodial Account Manager but report to Director of Accounting.

Essential Functions

  • Complete complex month-end and ad-hoc reconciliations by account and by client, covering $200M+ combined balances with approximately 1K+ transactions per month, by designated deadlines.

  • Review, identify, and communicate solutions and adjustments needed to clean up historical data in internal systems as needed

  • Review and resolve client questions and concerns around plan funding transactions, prefund deposits, and other plan funding related topics

  • Complete monthly expired plan review to ensure expired plans have a zero-dollar balance. This includes reviewing non-expired plans 1 year+ past their plan end date.

  • Review terminated client listings monthly to ensure plan balances are resolved and any prefund deposits collected have been refunded net of any unpaid balances.

  • Help COBRA Accounting team monitor and resolve stale, outstanding checks mailed to COBRA carriers

  • Help complete monthly forfeiture and plan funding prefund deposit processes

  • Help collection team contact and collect unpaid balances from clients during busy seasons

  • Help the Custodial Accounting Manager complete unclaimed property analysis and reporting throughout the year

  • Help review and contribute insight on how we can continue to enhance our current processes and controls to ensure they are best in industry, either independently or in tandem with other Navia department staff

  • Other day-to-day duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Demonstrated passion for account reconciliations, specifically bank account reconciliations.

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Experience and knowledge of QuickBooks (extensive knowledge is +) and Microsoft Word and Outlook

  • Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Ability to manage time, including but not limited to:

  • Review and re-prioritize assigned tasks from day-to-day based on importance and urgency with limited direction from supervisor

  • Work with minimal supervision

  • Punctual, self-starter

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with tight deadlines without getting overwhelmed

  • Positive attitude

  • Independent/self-motivated and ability to work in team environment

  • Willingness to work outside scheduled work hours as needed, especially during our busy season
