Summary of Job Description:

This position represents the affiliate’s medical/scientific voice of expertise for the hands on training of Ophthalmology surgeons on assigned Eyecare products.

The Eyecare Clinical Trainer holds primary responsibilities in the overall training journey and further certification of ophthalmology surgeons aiming to use XEN Glaucoma Treatment System comprised by XEN45 Gel Stent and XEN injector for the treatment of glaucoma, in the maintenance of professional relationship with ophthalmologists and other external stakeholders including ophthalmology nurses and with relevant medical societies through up to date scientific exchanges, in cross collaboration with Eyecare Medical colleagues including Clinical Training Manager, Medical Affairs Manager, Medical and/or Scientific Advisor, Medical Science Liaison and Brand Teams members for the timely feedback on the issues and needs raised by the ophthalmology surgeons and the site nurses the Clinical Trainer is dealing with on a daily basis. The Clinical Trainer should also be familiarized with up to date scientific/medical knowledge on glaucoma and with technical knowledge/skills on XEN Glaucoma Treatment System as well.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop/update and execute the annual wet lab and surgical training program for Ophthalmology surgeons aiming to use XEN Glaucoma Treatment System to their patients;
  • Ensure wet lab and surgical training for ophthalmology surgeons are conducted in accordance with the training guidance on scheduled dates and post-training logs/report forms are created and properly stored for potential inspections;
  • Ensure proper certification of all ophthalmology surgeons undergoing wet lab and surgical training by confirming their proficiency in XEN Gel stent intra-ocular placement techniques prior to the introduction of XEN Glaucoma Treatment system to their patients;
  • Ensure periodical engagement with certified surgeons to confirm whether XEN Glaucoma Treatment System and the wet lab and surgical training are satisfactory and well as whether any changes in the training program are needed;
  • Undergo proper training in order to ensure he/she is well skilled to provide ophthalmology surgeons with wet lab and surgical training/guidance on the technique for the intra-ocular placement of XEN Gel stent using glaucoma eye model;
  • Provide feedback to Eyecare Medical Team on insights for the development/update of medical strategies, of scientific AGENDA for medical events including Advisory Board meetings, Individual Consultations, educational seminars and symposiums;
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with internal and local regulations in the technical responses for the unsolicited medical requests (UMR) pertaining to the assigned eyecare diseases and products including XEN45 Glaucoma Treatment System;
  • Develop/review periodically forecasts for the training materials (Binocular microscope, disposable glaucoma eye model, surgical devices such as knife/scarpel and forceps, etc…) and ensure adequate stock throughout the year by purchasing enough amount on time to avoid training delays;
  • Ensure AEs are properly reported to pharmacovigilance by the ophthalmology surgeons or direct reports in accordance with internal policies and procedures;
  • Develop and update together with Medical team members accurate medical/scientific core dossiers including training guidance for XEN Glaucoma Treatment System;
  • Provide educational support to commercial colleagues (Sales and Marketing) on XEN Glaucoma Treatment System including clinical trainings and also medical inputs from Clinical Trainer perspective into commercial strategies and initiatives as required;
  • Establish and maintain professional and credible relationships with external stakeholders through attendance of medical and scientific events in the ophthalmology field including medical congresses, educational seminars and/or symposiums and other relevant events;
  • Deliver scientific presentations and/or medical education programs to healthcare professionals in eyecare individually or in groups at medical booths or clinical sessions during medical congresses;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable national laws and/or regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie’s policies and procedures and accepted standards of best practice.
