Position Description

Are you interested in advanced energy technologies and how key stakeholders across the country are implementing them? We are looking for an intern interested in some of the most pressing issues in the energy space to conduct research and analysis on state utility regulation. The Clean Energy Regulatory Analysis Intern will learn about Public Utilities Commissions across the country by researching commissions and reviewing the latest key regulatory processes and decisions.  

For the final project, the Intern will review consequential dockets related to clean energy and share trends and progress being made across the country. By the end of this internship, the Intern will have a strong understanding of energy regulation across the country, the role of Public Utility Commissions in energy decision-making, and progress being made at the state level on pressing issue areas such as affordability, clean energy, and load growth. 


Key Responsibilities 

  • Researching state regulatory proceedings and Public Utility Commissions  
  • Analyzing key dockets as they relate to clean energy deployment 
  • Other projects as assigned 

Interns will work a hybrid schedule and therefore must be located in the DC, MD, VA area for the summer, a commutable distance to our DC office. A final project will be due from each intern and presented to the organization at the end of the program. 


Required Qualifications

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, SharePoint, Word, etc.)   
  • Ability to communicate across modes given that much of our team is remote 
  • Excellent time management and work ownership abilities   
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail   
  • Interest in building a knowledge of granular energy policy   
  • Interest in the advanced energy field or public policy as a career   


Preferred Qualifications

Detail-oriented; intellectually curious; strong written and oral communication skills; and interest in advanced energy and/or public policy career

Hours: 40 hours per week   
Compensation: $18.00/hr
