Job Overview

Position Overview:

Provide specialist technical oversight for ±500 kV VSC-HVDC terminal stations, including converter technology, AC/DC system interfaces, converter transformers, valves, reactors, filters, control systems, protection systems, and overall system integration to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review overall HVDC system architecture, design criteria, technical specifications, and interface requirements across the complete VSC-HVDC scheme.
  • Review OEM design documentation for VSC converters, converter transformers, valves, DC equipment, AC equipment, and associated auxiliary systems.
  • Assess the design and performance of AC/DC filters, smoothing reactors, harmonic filters, reactive power compensation systems, and associated equipment.
  • Review station control, HVDC control, valve control, protection systems, monitoring systems, and sequence-of-events functionality.
  • Evaluate operating philosophies, power control functions, voltage control strategies, reactive power control, black-start capability, and system recovery arrangements.
  • Review protection coordination between the HVDC system, AC substations, converter stations, grid protection systems, SCADA, and telecommunication networks.
  • Assess and review system studies including load flow, short-circuit, harmonic performance, insulation coordination, overvoltage analysis, electromagnetic interference, and dynamic performance studies.
  • Verify technical interfaces between converter transformers, valves, cooling systems, control systems, communication systems, and station auxiliary equipment.
  • Review OEM manufacturing processes, factory acceptance testing (FAT), installation procedures, site acceptance testing (SAT), and commissioning methodologies.
  • Participate in design reviews, engineering workshops, technical audits, risk assessments, and technical resolution meetings.
  • Review control and protection settings, logic diagrams, interlocks, operational philosophies, and functional specifications.
  • Witness and review factory and site testing activities where contractually required, ensuring compliance with approved procedures and performance requirements.
  • Support technical issue resolution during installation, integration, testing, energization, and trial operation phases.
  • Monitor subsystem testing, integrated system testing, station energization, and operational readiness activities.
  • Identify technical risks, design gaps, performance concerns, and interface issues, providing mitigation recommendations and corrective actions.
  • Review as-built documentation, operation and maintenance manuals, training materials, and handover documentation prior to project closeout.
  • Coordinate with Substation, Protection & Control, SCADA, Telecommunications, and Grid Integration teams to ensure seamless interface management and system integration.
