Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Regional Representation
- Represent Afreximbank Group within the Caribbean region, engaging with stakeholders and promoting the Bank’s mandate and image.
- Act as the President’s representative in the region, providing leadership, guidance, and strategic oversight to regional operations.
- Lead, develop and motivate client-facing teams to build and maintain high-quality relationships with host governments, regional institutions, corporates, and development partners.
Client Relationship Management
- Oversee the management of a client portfolio through client relations officers, ensuring the development of proactive, customized engagement plans.
- Provide timely and high-quality client service to corporates, financial institutions, and government agencies within the region.
- Identify client needs and ensure timely provision of accurate information on the Bank’s products and services.
Business Origination & Deal Execution
- Coordinate deal teams across the Bank’s product lines and geographies.
- Review business proposals, Pre-Assessment Memos and Credit Proposals submitted by the region and make recommendations to the Director & Global Head, Client Relations.
- Lead new business pitches, undertake commercial negotiations, and secure mandates in line with the Bank’s growth objectives.
- Support recovery and resolution efforts for delinquent transactions.
Strategic Planning & Market Development
- Prepare the annual Regional Strategic and Marketing Plans aligned with the Bank’s overall Strategic Plan.
- Lead implementation of approved marketing plans and strategies to deepen penetration into various segments of the trade finance and investment banking markets.
- Champion and ensure visibility and uptake of all Afreximbank Group products and initiatives across the Caribbean region.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full branch-level compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational policies, including AML/CFT frameworks and professional codes of conduct.
- Maintain proper documentation through structured reporting, file notes, and follow-up actions after client engagements.
- Manage Bank assets and property in liaison with the Administrative Services Department.
External Representation
- Represent the Bank in high-level regional meetings, forums, and industry platforms.
- Enhance and protect the Bank’s corporate image and stakeholder relationships throughout the region.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Senior Management.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in Business Administration, Banking, Finance or related field, or a recognized postgraduate professional qualification in Banking.
Years & Nature of Experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience with a leading financial services institution.
- Demonstrated familiarity with major trade finance and investment banking products, including:
syndications, co-financing, club deals, correspondent banking products (letters of credit, factoring, forfaiting), structured trade finance, carbon financing, corporate finance risk participations, and project-related financing. - Proven track record operating at senior management or executive level, preferably in a regional or multi-country context.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong ability to function in culturally diverse and change-oriented environments.
- Experience interacting with high-level government officials, corporates, and financial institutions.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English; competency in one or more of the Bank’s working languages (French, Arabic, Portuguese) is an added advantage.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including management of teams and human resources to achieve strategic objectives.
