Job Overview

The Structural Engineer is responsible for analysis, design and assessment of reinforced and mass concrete structures subjected to hydraulic loading. The role focuses on ensuring structural integrity, hydraulic performance, constructability, and long-term durability of water-retaining and water-conveyance structures.
Analyse and design reinforced and mass concrete hydraulic structures, including dams, spillways, intake structures, stilling basins, canals, culverts, energy dissipation structures, and retaining walls. Key responsibilities include:Perform structural assessments under static, dynamic, seismic, thermal, uplift and hydraulic load conditions, including flood and extreme event scenarios.

  • Develop and review detailed structural calculations, design drawings, specifications, and technical reports in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Coordinate closely with hydraulic, geotechnical, and civil engineers to ensure integrated and safety design solutions.
  • Assess crack control, durability, abrasion, cavitation risk, and long-term performance of concrete hydraulic structures.
  • Review and optimise concrete mix designs, reinforcement detailing, joint layouts, and construction sequences to meet performance and durability requirements.
  • Review contractor design submissions, temporary works, and construction methodologies related to concrete hydraulic structures.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including site inspections, design clarifications and resolution of non-conformances.
  • Contribute to dam safety reviews, condition assessments, rehabilitation and upgrade projects where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality management requirements.
