Position summary  

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Paint Prepper to join our HeavyAero team in Calgary, Alberta

  • Work Arrangement: On-Site
  • Hourly Pay Range: [$25.00 - $28.00]  
  • Employment Type: Full-time

Reporting to the Paint Shop Supervisor, the Paint Prepper plays a critical role in ensuring aircraft surfaces are properly prepared for high-quality paint application. This role involves advanced surface preparation techniques—including sanding, stripping, masking, and corrosion assessment—to ensure optimal paint adhesion and finish quality.


Responsibilities:

The Paint Prepper's duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Perform detailed inspections to identify surface defects, corrosion, structural irregularities, or damage.
  • Prepare exterior and interior aircraft surfaces using sanding, stripping, etching, cleaning, and masking techniques.
  • Apply primers, fillers, and sealants following manufacturer specifications and aviation standards.
  • Follow technical manuals, engineering work instructions, and regulatory documentation.
  • Ensure all preparation meets aircraft painting requirements and quality expectations.
  • Use PPE and follow all safety protocols for handling chemicals and hazardous materials.
  • Collaborate with painters, leads, and maintenance teams for workflow efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and regulation-compliant workspace
  • Lead by example and be a positive role model for others to follow 
  • Perform other related activities, as necessary or as assigned by management
  • Actively participate in the HeavyAero Safety Management System and Quality Assurance programs 
  • Respect and uphold all the Company policies, procedures & performance expectations 

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in aviation, automotive, or industrial paint preparation, with strong understanding of aluminum and fiberglass preparation.
  • Technical or vocational training in aircraft painting or surface preparation (preferred).
  • Knowledge of sanding, masking, chemical prep, etching, and corrosion treatment techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, work instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physical ability to bend, reach, stand, and lift materials.
  • Flexibility to support painting activities outside standard hours. 

Working Conditions:

  • Work performed in aircraft hangars, paint booths, and preparation areas.
  • Exposure to chemicals, solvents, dust, and noise—requiring PPE such as respirators, gloves, and safety eyewear.
  • Tasks may involve bending, reaching, standing for extended periods, and lifting heavy objects.
  • Must adhere to strict safety protocols and environmental handling procedures.
  • May occasionally work outside regular hours depending on aircraft project timelines.

Additional Requirements: 

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada  
  • Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
