Job Description 

With the launch of our composite repair and paint shop, we are expanding our capabilities to support both aviation and non-aviation needs. We are actively recruiting for an Industrial Sewer to join our HeavyAero team in Calgary, Alberta.

Work Arrangement:

Reporting to the Structures Supervisor, the Industrial Sewer will be responsible for operating industrial sewing machines and related equipment to produce high‑quality products according to specifications. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in craftsmanship, works well with their hands, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in the HeavyAero Safety Management System and Quality Assurance programs
  • Operate a variety of industrial sewing machines (e.g., walking foot, serger, cover stitch, zig‑zag).
  • Sew, assemble, and finish fabric, vinyl, leather, or other materials based on production requirements.
  • Follow patterns, measurements, and technical drawings with accuracy.
  • Inspect finished products for quality, consistency, and durability.
  • Perform minor machine adjustments and routine maintenance (e.g., threading, tension adjustments).
  • Work collaboratively with production supervisors and team members to meet daily output targets.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety standards.
  • Lead by example and be a positive role model for others to follow
  • Perform other related activities, as necessary or as assigned by management
  • Respect and uphold all the Company policies, procedures & performance expectations

Qualifications:

Previous experience as an industrial sewer or sewing machine operator (preferred).

Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions.

Comfort working with various materials such as heavy fabrics, vinyl, and leather.

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.

Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Team-oriented attitude and reliable work ethic.

Knowledge of pattern reading and cutting, (preferred)

Experience in upholstery, garment manufacturing, automotive interiors, or industrial textile, (preferred)

Familiarity with specialty sewing machines (double-needle, overlock, programmable machines), (preferred)

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Indoor manufacturing/production facility.
  • Noise Level: Moderate to high; hearing protection may be required in some areas.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Prolonged sitting or standing at a workstation.
    • Frequent repetitive hand, arm, and foot motions.
    • Occasional lifting of materials up to [insert weight—typically 25–50 lbs].
  • Pace: Fast‑paced production setting with daily and weekly output targets.
  • Equipment: Industrial sewing machines, cutting tools, measuring tools, and material-handling equipment.
  • Safety: PPE may be required (e.g., gloves, safety glasses). Training on safe machine operation will be provided.
  • Temperature: May vary depending on season and machinery but generally stable indoor conditions.
