Senior System Software Engineer - US
Employee - USJob Overview
Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems.
The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit 🐈⬛. In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously!
We're a diverse team of 140+ brilliant minds from over 20 countries united by a single goal: to revolutionise computing with a practical fault-tolerant quantum machine. Are you ready to take on unprecedented challenges and contribute to revolutionising technology? Join us, and let's shape the future of quantum computing together!
We are looking for software engineers with the skills, focus, and patience to make new hardware architectures perform. The Alice & Bob quantum processor has the potential to revolutionize HPC applications, but to achieve this it must be integrated with production scientific computing workflows. We are building a team dedicated to this task. Core members should be familiar with multiple relevant disciplines and have deep expertise in at least one area. Team members will share experience and knowledge with colleagues while helping bring a culture of high-performance computing and system software integration to Alice & Bob.
A Senior Systems Software Engineer in this role will typically have 7+ years of experience, broad exposure to the key disciplines involved, and meaningful completed projects in at least one of them—ideally within a small team or organization. The successful candidate will be capable of writing and reviewing production-level code in C, C++, and Python, and willing to learn new languages and dialects as required. They should be comfortable taking well-defined architectural designs and translating them into efficient, maintainable implementations.
In this role, you will collaborate with researchers at other institutions to build systems and tools with long-term value. The team will deliver working open-source software that enables Alice & Bob quantum processors to integrate with and be administered through HPC computing center networks and management systems.
This position is part of a US-based team. Alice & Bob’s physical offices in the United States are located in the Boston area, though remote working arrangements may be available.
