Software Engineer (Helm)
Job Overview
About Us
Amidon Heavy Industries is a venture-backed startup transforming subsea inspection and monitoring. We build autonomous surface vessels (USVs) that autonomously launch and recover remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to perform high-frequency inspections of subsea pipelines, telecom cables, and offshore infrastructure. Our system operates at a fraction of the cost of traditional crewed vessels, unlocking scalable, real-time subsea awareness for the first time.
The Role
We are hiring a Software Engineer to lead development of Helm, our software platform for subsea operations and asset intelligence. Helm is both the operator interface for controlling our autonomous vessels and ROVs, and the customer-facing platform where inspection data is processed, visualized, and turned into actionable insights.
You will be responsible for building Helm into a seamless, reliable product that connects ship control with asset awareness. Operators will use it to plan missions and monitor vehicle status in real time. Customers will use it to see a living digital record of their subsea infrastructure, complete with anomaly detection, inspection history, and predictive insights. This is a foundational role where your work will shape how the offshore industry interacts with subsea data.
Responsibilities
Build and own the Helm platform, from mission planning and fleet operations to asset visualization and analytics
Design interfaces that integrate live telemetry, navigation, and vehicle control into an intuitive operator dashboard
Develop tools for customers to view pipelines, cables, and assets as digital twins enriched with inspection history and condition monitoring
Implement backend systems for managing mission logs, inspection data, and sensor fusion outputs from USVs and ROVs
Integrate outputs from perception and autonomy teams into user-facing features like anomaly detection and condition reporting
Ensure Helm works in real-world marine environments, including low-bandwidth, high-latency connections
Collaborate with robotics, perception, and product teams to prioritize features and deliver a cohesive system
Qualifications
4+ years of professional software engineering experience
Strong skills in modern web development (React, TypeScript, or similar frameworks)
Backend development experience with Python, Go, or comparable languages
Familiarity with data pipelines, real-time streaming, and scalable storage architectures
Experience building applications that combine control systems with data visualization
Ability to work across the stack and take ownership of end-to-end features
Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross-disciplinary environments
Bonus Points
Experience with GIS, mapping, or 3D visualization of sensor data
Background in mission control software, fleet management, or robotics interfaces
Familiarity with subsea or field robotics data, including sonar and video
Startup experience building software from zero to one
Exposure to asset management, inspection regimes, or digital twin platforms
