Job Overview

  • Lead and coordinate the Underground Stay in Business (SIB) civil, structural & mechanical engineering effort to meet DeBeers Group and Anglo-American standards, specifications and procedures throughout the Life of Mine (LOM).
  • Maintain discipline alignment with Principal Engineer, Specialist Discipline Engineers and Section Engineering Managers.
  • Support successful project delivery within cost and schedule baselines.
  • Assure that all fabrication and construction quality standards are met.
  • Enhance and maintain integration and teamwork between the various technical disciplines and appointed engineering consultants.
  • Maintain and ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable SHE policies and procedures.
  • Encourage a culture that focuses on safety.
  • Ensure safety in design is achieved through support of appropriate technical risk management interventions.
  • Ensure compliance with document control standards and procedures as well as quality of documentation, drawings and associated metadata.
  • Lead and ensure engineering best practice, continuous improvement and fit for purpose engineering.
  • Effectively manage appointed engineering consultants.
  • Effectively manage relevant team members
  • Enhance and maintain integration and teamwork between the various technical disciplines and appointed engineering consultants.
  • Perform technical reviews to ensure safety, technical integrity and quality; Conduct technical evaluations as required.
  • Ensure optimal use of project engineering and capital budgets (Capital Efficiency). Develop a project plan and budget aligned to the pre-production project plan.
  • Develop and implement project designs from detail engineering to commissioning phase and handover
  • Effectively apply engineering process methodology and enforce project standards
  • Participate in implementation of appropriate quality management systems to ensure delivery of high-quality projects
  • Initiates, designs and develops new processes/practices and procedures to enhance project outcome
  • Recognised as a technical authority pertaining to discipline specific problems
  • Proactively and independently identifies and solves problems – consults others about solutions to more complex or multidisciplinary technical issues
