The Shaft Rock Engineer is responsible for providing the Shaft with specialist Rock Engineering services and expertise that forms part of the MRM department. The work focus timeframe is one year to life of mine.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and design of rock engineering plans and reports
  • Remedial action to observed deviations from support specifications
  • Hazard identification and risk rating surveys
  • Design of Pillars, Excavations, Support systems/methodologies
  • Day-to-day engineering and design recommendations suitably backed up by modelling or other techniques
  • Geotechnical input to reserve losses and dilution
  • Accident investigation and associated reporting
  • Input into mining layouts regarding support systems and standards
  • Support patterns and systems
  • Stop dangerous or nonstandard working places
  • Assessment of rock mass characteristics and conditions
  • Mapping of geological structures for geotechnical / rock engineering and mine design purposes
  • Observation of adherence to support standard and quality
  • Monitoring of rock mass stability
  • Assess suppliers in terms of adherence to specifications
  • Mine design and layouts
  • Observation of rock mass conditions
  • Geotechnical logging form surface drilling exploration programme boreholes
  • Reporting on observations to line and technical disciplinal head
  • Input observations into the appropriate database

This role is at a Band 6 level reporting to Manager Rock Engineering.
