Assala Gabon is looking for a proactive HSSE officer. You will be responsible for all HSSE aspects in the field.

The role is to ensure that all activities are executed consistently with Assala Spirit and Values and the requirements of Assala Energy HSSE Management Standard.

You will oversee the implementation of all relevant health, safety, security and environmental policies, regulations, and procedures and ensure they are accessible, and understood by all field personnel.

Key activities

  • Assist workers in the identification of hazards and the management of associated risks for each activity under Assala Gabon supervision (mode 1 HSSE contract);
  • Ensure activities executed within contractor HSSE management system (mode 2 contracts) are regularly audited for compliance with contractors HSSE MS, relevant bridging documents and HSSE clauses;
  • Coordinate the reporting of unsafe acts and conditions and near misses and ensure subsequent actions are closed out in a timely and effective manner;
  • Coordinate the closure of actions from internal and external audits;
  • Undertake assigned site inspections and audits and coordinate action closure;
  • Provide input to the planning and ensure execution of the site HSSE plan;
  • Monitor, report HSSE performance and address identified gaps for the selected KPI;
  • Deliver relevant site training (gas testing, H2S awareness, Permit to Work (PTW), working at height etc.);
  • Verify adequacy and completeness of PTW and associated certificates;
  • Provide HSSE induction for new Staff, contractors and visitors to the Field;
  • Ensure strict control of Fitness system to work system (medical certificate and HSSE accreditation) for each site entrance of staff & contractors and visitors;
  • Verify compliance with health management procedures with particular attention the management of chronic diseases;
  • Verify the adequacy and completeness of site security set up/measures and address any identified gaps;
  • Verify implementation and compliance with road safety rules;
  • Ensure site preparedness in responding to emergencies and play assigned role in the emergency response team;
  • Ensure hazardous substances are managed as per procedure and that all chemical have adequate MSDS;
  • Verify compliance with waste management procedures and guidelines;
  • Report and investigate incidents and ensure actions are closed out;

Requirements

  • Health and safety incidents and environmental damage prevention mindset;
  • Demonstrated site HSSE leadership;
  • Bachelors (3-5 yr) Degree with minimum 3 Years’ experience in a similar role;
  • Good understanding of local, national and international regulatory and legislative regimes in health, safety and environment;
  • Possess effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact across levels throughout the company and the various external parties;
  • Knowledge of international standards such as ISO 14001  and ISO 45001 ;
  • Ability to influence without direct authority particularly in a heavily contracted working environment.
