Job Overview

We are looking for an Industrial Safety Coordinator on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in ​Mol, Belgium​. The successful candidate will perform different tasks related to the industrial safety of the project.

Please be aware that this position requires regular on-site presence, with employees expected to be on-site for at least 5 of every 10 consecutive working days.

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage).

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

  • Contribute to drafting the SMR-LFR industrial safety project initiation document for conceptual design (including milestones, work packages, resources, workplan);

  • Develop a framework and an approach for industrial and environmental safety and risk analysis, starting from available guidelines and lead-cooled fast Small Modular Reactor (SMR) nuclear safety approach, in consultation with the client’s licensing team and Health & Safety department;

  • Define a preliminary strategy for the SMR CE self-declaration, in consultation with the client’s licensing team and Health Physics department;

  • If necessary, and with support of the client’s Health Physics department, become familiar with the applicable Belgian (national and regional) legislation and regulations in the matters of Environment, Health and Safety, identify the relevant sections providing design requirements, including but not limited to: 

    • CODEX;

    • AREI/RGIE;

    • ARAB;

    • Royal Decree of 07/07/1994 fixing the basic standards for the prevention against fire and explosion;

    • Belgian Royal decree of 11/03/2002: risks of chemical agents at work, Flemish VLAREM II.

  • Become familiar with the industrial hazards of the SMR installation;

  • Lead, participate in, and plan risk analyses sessions (e.g., HAZID, FMEA);

  • Keep the project stakeholders informed about the progress and outcome of the risk analyses;

  • Review design documentation for hazard minimization and compliance with the industrial safety approach and safety codes & standards (e.g. IEC-61508, IEC-62061/4, European directives: Machinery, PED, Low voltage, EMC, etc.);

  • Review the list of SMR Codes & Standards applicable for industrial safety and propose additions/alternatives when necessary;

  • Prepare key deliverables for conceptual design such as Industrial Safety Philosophy, Hazard Mapping and Hazard Inventory;

  • Define necessary requirements for the design of safety systems deriving from the industrial safety approach and risk analyses;

  • Request and follow up the progress of ad-hoc studies in support of risk analyses if necessary.
