Description:
The Special Assistant, Scouting is responsible for observing, evaluating, and recommending amateur baseball players that regional supervisors and area scouts have reported on as premium prospects. Provides national crosschecking coverage of amateur prospects at the college, junior college, high school, semi-pro and professional levels and assists in the coordination of regional supervisor activities. Assists Director, Scouting in the final overall rankings of prospects for the amateur draft. Other similar duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Cross checking and evaluating the top players in the country
- Assist in running and preparing for the amateur draft
- Providing assistance in dealing with the staff and the organization of the scouting department
- Evaluating and reporting on professional baseball players in the U.S. in the form of regular season minor league team coverage
- Supporting the AGM in all efforts to research, identify, and recommend international amateur players for the Club
- Establishing and maintaining contacts with foreign baseball entities and leagues
- Formulating and maintaining a database of international prospects and creating country-specific preference lists in the Athletics proprietary scouting system
- Assisting in the registration process of foreign amateur baseball players
- Assisting in the process of signing players and negotiating international contracts
- Other similar duties and responsibilities as may be assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of baseball fundamentals, player evaluation, and positional profiles
- Understanding of amateur, collegiate, and professional baseball landscapes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to analyze video and translate observations into clear, concise reports
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and video platforms
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
