Description:
The Professional Scout is responsible for the scouting and evaluation of professional players in a number of different settings. These settings include, but are not limited to, major and minor league spring training and minor league regular season play, instructional league, and fall and winter league play. The Professional Scout will also assist the major league club in preparation for post-season play by scouting potential opponents. There may be instances in which the Professional Scout is also called upon to scout prospects for the amateur draft. 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth scouting of professional and international players.
  • Prepare detailed evaluation reports and maintain updated player databases.
  • Analyze player performance using game film, live observation, and statistical tools.
  • Identify potential trade, free-agent, or draft prospects.
  • Collaborate with coaching and analytics departments to align evaluations with team strategy.
  • Attend games, tournaments, combines, and showcases as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the organization’s professional standards.
  • Provide recommendations and insights during player acquisition discussions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Prior experience scouting or coaching.
  • Strong understanding of player evaluation metrics and scouting technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • High attention to detail and ability to make objective assessments under pressure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Analytics, or related field (preferred).
