Engineering Manager (m/f/d)

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of ~8 engineers (long-term target). The team is responsible for: - The central listings database - Backend APIs serving internal and external consumers - Integrations with hundreds of external data providers - Data validation, enrichment, and quality systems - Reliable distribution of listings to downstream systems

This includes ownership of the full data lifecycle: ingestion, validation, enrichment, storage, and distribution.

What you’ll do:

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, ensuring strong performance and growth
• Act as a strong technical leader in architecture and system design discussions
• Drive high engineering standards with a strong focus on operational excellence
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of a Tier-1 system
• Collaborate closely with Product to shape and deliver the roadmap
• Partner with central engineering teams to define and drive the technical strategy
• Contribute to cross-team and company-wide initiatives

• Expected to operate at a high level of efficiency using modern AI-assisted development tools
• Expected to guide the team in adopting AI in a way that measurably improves delivery speed and quality
• Act as a role model for efficient use of modern AI tooling in day-to-day engineering and management work
• Identify and implement opportunities to leverage AI across the development lifecycle
• Partner with central teams to evaluate and roll out AI capabilities at scale

Technical environment:

• Backend-focused system with minimal frontend components
• Primary language: Java (with ongoing migration away from Scala)
• Object-oriented architecture and services
• Kafka for event streaming and data pipelines
• AWS-based infrastructure and hosting
• PostgreSQL as core database

What you’ll bring: 

• 5+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager
• 5+ years of prior experience as a software engineer (hands-on background required)
• Strong technical foundation with a proven engineering track record
• Experience with object-oriented programming (preferably Java or C#/.NET)
• Ability to lead technical discussions and guide architectural decisions
• Strong focus on engineering excellence, reliability, and operational quality
