BCMCF-M is seeking qualified candidates to fill the positions of:
Position: Research Assistant
Contract Duration: 1 year (possibly renewable)
Location: Mitundu, Kabudula, Nathenje, Lumbadzi, Chitedze, Kawale, Area 18, Area 25.
Reports to: Study Coordinator
STATUS: Full time (40 hours per week).
Position description and responsibilities
and Preterm birth Research Study to be done in hospitals and health centers across Lilongwe. The research assistant will be responsible for assisting in arranging and conducting meetings with study stake holders at the and around villages of the health facilities they will be assigned. Conducting community sensitization/study awareness campaigns, assessing study participants including screening, consenting enrollment and following-up participants at the and around villages of the health facilities they will be assigned, ensure all study biological specimens are collected, labeled, stored and transported in a timely manner, documenting, and ensuring quality of data entry for the study. The assistants will be responsible for giving acceptable standards of care to clients under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and assigned investigators.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following
- Recruiting, screening, consenting, enrolling and following-up study participants
- Conducting community sensitization and study awareness campaigns
- Collecting and managing biological specimens and ensuring timely transport
- Providing high-quality clinical care and counseling to participants, particularly pregnant women.
- Supporting data collection, entry, validation, and research documentation
- Coordinating with investigators, research teams, and clinical staff to ensure smooth study implementation
- Participating in trainings, stakeholder meetings, and outreach activities
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to Good Clinical Practice standards
Requirements
- Diploma in Public Health, Community Health, Social Work, Education, or Nursing & Midwifery from a recognized institution
- Clinical or research experience, particularly in maternal health, or child care, is an added advantage
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in Chichewa and English
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and in community settings
- Computer literacy (Word and Excel) and accurate data management skills
- Willingness to relocate to assigned study sites.
