Location:        Manchester, M22 (Hybrid working available)

Hours:            Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Focus of the role:

The Management Accountant plays a pivotal role in delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial performance reporting. This role is responsible for month‑end processes, margin and revenue analysis, KPI reporting, balance sheet control, and supporting budgeting and forecasting cycles. Success in this role requires curiosity to get to the right answer, strong analytical capability, and the ability to make sound decisions even when data is incomplete.  

 

The Management Accountant must demonstrate accountability, drive, and commitment, actively seek opportunities to improve processes, elevate reporting quality, and strengthen financial insight across the organisation. The successful candidate will partner closely with stakeholders, support strategic decision‑making, and contribute to enhancing the maturity and effectiveness of the Finance function. 

 

Responsibilities:

Operational Excellence 

  • Perform month‑end routines to agreed timelines, owning designated revenue and cost areas 

  • Prepare margin analysis and provide commentary to explain deviations from budget, forecast, or prior periods 

  • Manage key cost lines, including analysis, accruals, prepayments, and variance investigation 

  • Analyse annuity revenue and explain month‑on‑month movements 

  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations with full ownership and accountability 

  • Maintain fixed asset registers, postings, and reconciliations 

  • Lead monthly staff cost reconciliations and deliver cost reporting to stakeholders 

  • Support deferred income, WIP reporting and revenue recognition aligned to project status 

  • Track and report Management KPIs across functions, ensuring accuracy and integrity 

  • Ensure adherence to financial procedures and internal controls across all reporting areas 

Process Improvement & Analytical Enhancement 

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate month end processes 

  • Improve reporting quality, structure, and relevance, ensuring stakeholders receive meaningful analysis 

  • Challenge existing processes with curiosity and drive to enhance accuracy, speed, and scalability 

  • Support system and process enhancements to strengthen financial controls and improve efficiency 

Business Partnering & Stakeholder Collaboration 

  • Build effective working relationships with department leads, providing insight, challenge, and support 

  • Partner with Procurement to ensure cost control, identify savings opportunities, and validate overheads 

  • Act as a trusted advisor, helping the business interpret financial performance and drive informed decisions 

  • Communicate clearly and confidently with non-financial teams, translating numbers into actionable insight 

Planning, Forecasting & Audit Support 

  • Assist the Finance Manager with year-end audit requirements 

  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting processes, providing analysis and scenario insight 

  • Support ad hoc analysis and projects aimed at improving financial capability and transparency

Person, Skills & Experience:

Essential 

  • Experience working within a finance function, ideally in a management accounting or similar analytical role 

  • Studying towards or qualified in CIMA/ACCA 

  • Strong analytical mindset with natural curiosity to “get to the right number” 

  • Demonstrated accountability, resilience, and drive to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment 

  • Ability to work with incomplete data and make sound, commercial decisions 

  • Strong Excel skills and confidence using wider Microsoft tools (Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams) 

  • Experience building effective stakeholder relationships and supporting teams outside Finance 

  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and professional standards 

  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables while working both independently and collaboratively 

Desirable 

  • Degree‑educated 

  • Experience working in a scaling, multi‑entity, or private‑equity backed environment 

  • Exposure to process improvement, automation, or systems change 

  • Prior experience in data‑rich reporting or financial modelling
