The Opportunity

BlueScope Distribution is looking for their next Sales Manager - Long and Plate Products to join the Melbourne team based in Clayton South VIC. BlueScope Distribution is a single-source provider of product, processing and service solutions in steel and aluminium product. The business supports customers in a variety of industries and works with them to help deliver projects on time and to specification. BlueScope Distribution supports its customers by helping them find the freedom to do what they do best.

This role is one of the more substantial sales leadership positions in the Distribution business, and it sits right at the intersection of strategy, market presence and execution.

What Will You Do?

This is a customer and market‑facing leadership role, but you won’t personally carry customer accounts. Instead, you’re ‘on the business’ – taking a clear business plan and objectives, shaping the sales strategy that gets us there, and then leading the execution through a capable team of account management and business development professionals.

  • optimise commercial performance: develop and execute a disciplined sales strategy that delivers growth across service, volume, margin and profitability
  • guide a high‑performing team: lead, coach and motivate the sales team with clear direction, expectations and accountability to enable consistent execution
  • drive business development: implement targeted initiatives to grow existing customers and segments while opening new markets and opportunities
  • partner with operations: work closely with operations to influence and align service offerings, throughput and operational capability required to enable sales success
  • stay close to the market: proactively monitor customer needs, competitor activity and market trends, providing clear insights to inform business decisions

More About You

You think strategically, lead through others, and stay driven through obstacles. You will bring:

  • senior sales leadership experience in a B2B environment within mature and/or highly competitive markets
  • proven success designing and executing sales growth strategies with clear results across revenue, margin and business development
  • prior people leadership capability with experience coaching, engaging and enabling performance
  • sound commercial acumen e.g. a strong understanding of pricing, margin, volume trade‑offs and impact of these on profitability
  • a continuous improvement mindset, translating customer insight into enhanced offerings and ways of working
