A Commercial Cleaning Manager manages daily janitorial operations, ensuring facilities are
cleaned to high standards, safety regulations are met, and staff are trained. Key duties include
scheduling personnel, inspecting work quality, managing supply inventory, and acting as the
primary liaison between cleaning crews and management or clients.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Team Leadership: Manage, train, and coach cleaning staff, including handling scheduling, absences, and performance reviews.
Management and supervision of Day and Night staff
Quality Control: Inspect sites regularly to ensure cleanliness standards are met, taking corrective action as needed.
Operational Management: Plan daily work assignments, ensure proper use of equipment, and manage inventory levels of cleaning supplies and chemicals.
Safety & Compliance: Enforce compliance with OSHA, health, and safety standards, ensuring appropriate PPE is used.
Client Relations: Communicate with clients regarding services, responding to feedback, and resolving complaints.
Hands-on Support: Assist with cleaning duties when necessary due to staffing shortages.
Ensure proper coverage for all shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Conduct regular inspections and provide corrective coaching when standards are not met.
Maintain employee attendance records and assist with payroll verification.
Enforce company policies, union guidelines (if applicable), and safety procedures.
Oversee daily cleaning of common areas, restrooms, lobbies, elevators, stairwells, offices, retail spaces, and back-of-house areas.
Perform routine walkthroughs to ensure cleanliness standards are consistently met.
Develop and maintain cleaning schedules and task checklists.
Ensure tenant requests, spills, emergencies, or special cleaning needs are properly responded to.
Ensure proper use and care of equipment and supplies.
Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
Place orders as needed and control costs through proper stock management.
Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe working condition.
Train staff on proper chemical handling and usage per OSHA guidelines.
Assist Property Management with pricing, scope reviews, and vendor evaluations.
Ensure proper storage and labeling of cleaning chemicals.
Participate in incident reporting and corrective action plans.
Provide regular status updates to Property Management Team.
Document inspections, staffing issues, and operational challenges.
Assist with move-ins, move-outs, events, and special projects.
Serve as a professional, customer-service-focused liaison with tenants and building occupants.
Typical Working Environment
The position requires experience working in commercial and residential buildings in New York City and the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
