Job Overview

Lead and drive through the organization the improvement of environmental, social, and economic

Performance by developing and implementing sustainable strategies. This involves assessing a company's current impact, creating actionable plans to reduce negative effects, and advising on how to align with regulatory requirements and corporate social responsibility goals. 

1. Risk Management & Compliance

·         Stay updated with environmental and social trends and legislation.

·         Develop annual Sustainability Management plans to mitigate environmental and social risks and to ensure compliance with World Bank, IFC, and the Equator Principles;

·         Facilitate environmental and social audits, particularly for projects financed by institutions aligned with World Bank, IFC, and the Equator Principles;

·         Co-ordinate, support efforts and monitor the implementation of these plans;

·         Be proactive in identifying social and environmental risks and develop strategies that can meet the expectations of the business and external stakeholders;

·         Advise and carry out actions related to social impact management and social responsibility of the company;

·         Manage Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and other relevant environmental studies in Gabon;

·         Coordination, timely submission and approval of all Environmental Permits and Licenses as

required;

·         Review reports of projects leading to fund raising and for the donors for specific projects funded;

·         Help identify compensation needs in the event of damage caused by any of the operating activities

·         Participate/lead the quarterly Sustainability Committee Meeting

2. Communication

·         Participate/lead the quarterly Sustainability Committee Meeting

·         Provide advisory on compliance with local environmental and social laws and regulations;

·         Contribute to social and environmental communication campaigns;

3. Relation with communities

·         Identify, implement, monitor and evaluate Social and Environmental projects based on the company sustainability investment strategy and on local community’s needs;

·         Understand social risk- Solve community issues- Manage community conflicts

·         Identify critical needs or issues related to community living around areas of operations

4. Performance monitoring & Reporting

·         Support the development of social and environmental performance KPIs;

·         Responsible for collecting and monitoring environmental and social data for performance reports (e.g. GHG emissions).

·         Contribute to annual sustainability reports and other environmental and social performance reports;

·         Prepare regular reports on Local Content activities

·         Make a regular reporting of cost expenditure of Sustainability Budget

·         Prepare summary presentation of all projects executed (including reports from vendors, pictures, videos, cost tracking, number of people impacted by the project

5. Stakeholder Engagement

·         Coordinate the implementation of Stakeholders Mapping and Grievance Mechanism in Gabon

·         Develop, coordinate and monitor Stakeholders Engagement plan, meetings/workshop events,

including public hearings;

·         Conduct when required trips to our areas of impacts (AOI): Mayumba, Libreville, Port-Gentil, …

·         Liaise with regulatory authorities, certification bodies, and external stakeholders as required.

Requirements

·         Master’s degree in Social, Environmental Sciences or related fields. Long relevant experience may replace formal qualifications.

·         Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a similar role;

·         Minimum of 3 years of experience in offshore oil and gas industry;

·         Experience in Sustainability and ESG reporting;

·         Knowledge of frameworks such as API, IPIECA, IOGP, GRI, and TCFD; Expert understanding of in country environmental and social regulations.

·         Experience working with local regulatory agencies;

·         Experience in Social and community project development;

·         Previous experience of managing Environmental Impact Assessments

·         Fluent in French and English (oral and written).

·         Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills.

·         Proactive and able to work independently, applying a structured and systematic approach;

·         Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.

·         Proficiency in HSE management systems, safety engineering tools, and reporting software.
