Print is already generating hundreds of millions of dollars within Canva, and offers an incredible opportunity to work at a global scale, whilst still early enough to solve data model complexity with a very talented team of cross-functional specialists.

The Canva Print vision is to empower the world to print any design, with a strong focus on ethical and environmentally friendly practices, such as the One Print, One Tree initiative. The group comprises 100+ people across Australia, the Philippines, and the United States, with the engineering team comprising 50+ people, predominantly based in Sydney.

The Print Promotion team mission is to drive customers to Print through trust, social proof, offers and loyalty. As Print moves to a two-sided marketplace model, this team will play a vital role in helping customers choose the right print merchant for their needs while maintaining quality standards.

About the Role/Specialty

As a Engineering Manager for the Print Promotions team you will work closely with product managers, marketing and other stakeholders to set the team direction. You’ll then lead the team to execute, hitting short-term tactical goals while building a platform for the future. As your learn more about Canva’s print business you’ll bring new ideas and test them at global scale.

What you’ll do (responsibilities)

  • coach and develop engineers by providing regular, practical feedback to help them reach their personal growth goals

  • work with product managers, designers, marketing and other stakeholders to set clear goals for the team

  • set the team’s technical strategy in conjunction with senior engineers

  • foster a culture of collaboration, celebration, high-performance and pragmatic engineering

  • own the team’s development methodology including sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives resulting in a high-performing team

  • balance short-term tactical delivery against long-term platform work to empower others in the business

What we're looking for

You’re an engineering leader who gets energised by the intersection of commerce and customer experience. You know how to balance the urgency of delivering for a major marketing event against the discipline of building systems that don't need to be rebuilt next year. Working across product, marketing, and merchant partners comes naturally to you because you understand that the best technical outcomes come from genuinely understanding what everyone in the room is trying to achieve.

We are looking for someone with:

  • entrepreneurial spirit

  • technical leadership and platform thinking

  • cross-functional collaboration to drive alignment on goals and priorities

  • e-Commerce domain knowledge

Experience with promotion systems, review platforms, print-on-demand or two-sided marketplaces is an advantage here, though we care more about how quickly you learn than what you already know.
