Overview
The Benefits Analyst is responsible for researching, analyzing and calculating pension benefits in a Defined Benefit Taft-Hartley Plan environment. Job duties include reviewing pension applications, determining applicant eligibility, performing benefits calculation and determining the type of benefit to be paid or denied.
Job Description
- Determine eligibility for pension benefits, including benefit adjustments, re-retirement, re-determination, and death claims.
- Calculate and pay pension benefits.
- Calculate estimates and prepare estimate packages for participants, beneficiaries and alternate payees.
- Review and analyze divorce decrees and property settlement agreements to make a recommendation to the Pension Manager on how to proceed with the claim.
- Communicate with participants, third parties, beneficiaries and alternate payees via telephone, email and written correspondence to help identify and solve inquiries regarding pension benefits.
- Process elective documents (Direct Deposit, W-4P State and Federal Tax Forms)
- Generate Pension Verification Letters and Denial Letters.
- Update database information for participants, beneficiaries and alternate payees.
- Suspend and Reinstate Benefits.
- Create correspondence including Power of Attorneys, Guardianships, Letters Testamentary and Estate documentation.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- 1 - 3 years work experience in adminsitration, finance, benefits or customer service
- Office 365 including intermediate Excel skills
- Proficiency in writing and communication skills
- Attention to Detail
- Strong Time Management Skills
- CEBS certification or coursework towards CEBS designation a plus
