Role Overview
The Scrum Master is responsible for ensuring Agile principles and Scrum practices are effectively implemented to help the team deliver high‑quality outcomes. This role facilitates team ceremonies, removes impediments, and fosters a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement. The Scrum Master acts as a servant leader, coach, and process guardian for one or more Agile teams.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitation & Process Excellence
- Lead and facilitate all Scrum ceremonies: Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Review, and Retrospective.
- Ensure the team follows Scrum practices consistently and adaptively.
- Guide the team in self‑organization and effective backlog management.
Team Coaching & Development
- Coach the team, Product Owner, and stakeholders on Agile values and behaviors.
- Foster a collaborative and psychologically safe environment.
- Support team members in understanding their roles and responsibilities within Scrum.
Impediment Removal
- Identify obstacles impacting the team’s progress.
- Work with stakeholders, leaders, and other teams to remove impediments quickly.
- Protect the team from external disruptions and context switching.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Partner closely with the Product Owner to ensure backlog clarity, prioritization, and readiness.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align on dependencies and deliverables.
- Promote transparency through consistent communication of progress and risks.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive a culture of experimentation, learning, and incremental improvement.
- Use metrics (velocity, cycle time, team health, etc.) to support data‑driven decision making.
- Facilitate retrospectives that lead to actionable and measurable improvements.
Agile Metrics & Reporting
- Track and communicate team performance and health indicators.
- Provide insights to leadership on delivery trends, risks, and team capacity.
- Ensure accurate and timely updates in Agile tools (Jira, ADO, etc.).
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3–7+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or in Agile delivery roles.
- Strong understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and Lean principles.
- Experience with Agile tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Rally, or Trello.
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Ability to influence without authority and build trust with diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as CSM, PSM I/II, SAFe Scrum Master, PMI‑ACP, or equivalent.
- Experience working in scaled Agile environments (SAFe, LeSS, Nexus).
- Background in software development, QA, DevOps, or project management.
