Job Overview

Your responsibilities

In this role you will engage in the development of a cryogenic cooling loop for a superconducting system, including magnet and current leads. This includes participating in the magnet and leads development fitting the cooling requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and operate cryogenic cooling systems with variable temperatures.
  • Assist in design of superconducting system meeting requirements for cryogenic cooling
  • Optimise thermal interfaces, at magnet and current leads level.
  • Execute experiment from cryogenic and superconducting system side.
  • This role includes team supervision responsibilities.

Your profile

  • Experience using mechanical CAD software (e.g., CATIA or similar).
  • Experience with FEM software for mechanical and thermal analysis (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
  • Proven capability in organising and executing experimental campaigns using dedicated DAQ systems.

Skills:

  • Ability to prepare reliable designs of cryogenic and mechanical components for working system
  • Data-analysis skills for characterisation of cryogenic cooling systems and its components
  • Knowledge of the electromagnetic fundamentals of superconductivity and applications in current leads and magnets
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
