Your responsibilities
In this role you will engage in the development of a cryogenic cooling loop for a superconducting system, including magnet and current leads. This includes participating in the magnet and leads development fitting the cooling requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Design and operate cryogenic cooling systems with variable temperatures.
- Assist in design of superconducting system meeting requirements for cryogenic cooling
- Optimise thermal interfaces, at magnet and current leads level.
- Execute experiment from cryogenic and superconducting system side.
- This role includes team supervision responsibilities.
Your profile
- Experience using mechanical CAD software (e.g., CATIA or similar).
- Experience with FEM software for mechanical and thermal analysis (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
- Proven capability in organising and executing experimental campaigns using dedicated DAQ systems.
Skills:
- Ability to prepare reliable designs of cryogenic and mechanical components for working system
- Data-analysis skills for characterisation of cryogenic cooling systems and its components
- Knowledge of the electromagnetic fundamentals of superconductivity and applications in current leads and magnets
- Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a professional background in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
- a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
