As a mechanical engineer, you will participate in the enhancement of the LHCb electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) in the coming years. This includes participation in the produciton of new ECAL modules and the re-assembly of the ECAL structure.
Your responsibilities
- Prepare 3D models and drawings of mechanical parts and assemblies.
- Participate in procurement and quality assurance tasks for new ECAL modules.
- Contribute to the design work in view of the re-assembly of the ECAL, including finite element studies of mechanical structures.
- In addition, participate in R&D towards the improvement of the existing ECAL modules.
Your profile
- Proven track record in designing mechanical parts and assemblies using 3D CAD tools.
- Hands-on experience in structural simulations using finite element analysis.
- Experience with heavy materials used as absorbers in calorimetry (lead, tungsten) is an advantage.
- Experience with additive manufacturing, in particular utilising metals, is an advantage.
Skills
- Knowledge of the CATIA and Ansys Mechanical software packages is an advantage.
- Ability to work in an international multi-disciplinary team with physicists, engineers and technicians.
- Skills to prepare comprehensive technical documentation.
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
- Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
