Job Overview

The Receiver is responsible for accurately and efficiently receiving, inspecting, and documenting all incoming raw materials, packaging, supplies, and other goods. This role ensures compliance with quality, food safety, and inventory procedures while maintaining a clean and organized receiving area in a fast-paced, refrigerated production environment

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Receiving & Inspection:
  • Receive and inspect incoming shipments of meat, packaging materials, ingredients, and other supplies.
  • Verify quantity and quality against purchase orders, bills of lading, and company specifications.
  • Check for temperature compliance on perishable items using calibrated thermometers.
  • Document damages, discrepancies, or quality concerns and escalate to Quality Assurance or Procurement as needed.

  • Documentation & Inventory Control:
  • Accurately complete all receiving logs, labels, and data entry into inventory management systems.
  • Apply appropriate date codes, lot numbers, and internal tracking labels to incoming goods.
  • Coordinate with Inventory Control to ensure first-in-first-out (FIFO) practices are upheld.

  • Communication & Coordination:
  • Communicate with Production, QA, Procurement, and other departments regarding delivery status, material availability, and urgent needs.
  • Work closely with drivers, vendors, and carriers to ensure proper unloading procedures.

  • Compliance & Safety:
  • Follow all USDA, HACCP, GMP, and company food safety policies and protocols.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized receiving docks and storage areas.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Familiarity with food safety standards, including HACCP and GMP.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments (30°F to 40°F).
  • Forklift certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1–2 years of experience in shipping/receiving, preferably in a food manufacturing or cold storage environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems and inventory management software a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Stand, bend, stoop, and walk for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in cold environments and around raw meat products
