Reporting to the T&D Western Canada Director, the Distribution Manager has responsibility for all distribution market regional operation, from business development to overall execution, operational management, and delivery of CIMA+ Energy & Resources projects across the region.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background within the Electrical Distribution market with a proven track record in design, team management, and business development within this market.
This is a leadership role requiring excellent customer service acumen in order to support challenging situations along with sound commercial judgement and management skills as well as entrepreneurial ability. Working directly with the senior management team within the Energy & Resources group, the Distribution Manager will be expected to positively contribute to the strategic direction, performance, growth, and profitability of the business and define and implement new strategic initiatives as required for the Electrical Distribution market.
Ideally the role will be based in our Vancouver, BC office, however other Western Canada office locations, including Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina will also be considered.
Primary Responsibilities
- Accountable for driving consistency, quality, efficiency, and innovation across the Distribution business through standardized processes, lessons learned, performance metrics, digital transformation, quality improvement initiatives, and adoption of best practices.
- Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the distribution team from proposal to project delivery.
- Build excellent working relationships with key internal and external clients; manage expectations and conflicting requirements with integrity, openness and professionalism.
- Continually seek to improve on performance levels by taking advantage of innovative technology and anticipating changes in Market practices, industry trends, process trends.
- Owner of strategic client relationships, key account growth, client satisfaction, and market expansion. Responsible for developing growth strategies, identifying new opportunities, participating in major pursuits, and strengthening relationships with key utility clients across Western Canada. Attend monthly energy sector meetings reporting on strategic plans, providing:
- KPI status, service delivery and operations performance for the Distribution market.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining the long-term staffing strategy, including workforce planning, recruitment, resource balancing across Western Canada, succession planning, and ensuring the organization has the capacity and capability to meet future client demand.
- Responsible for engineering excellence, technical governance, quality assurance, commercial risk management, contract oversight, and ensuring consistent application of engineering standards across all offices.
- Interrogate performance metrics for existing contracts, in conjunction with the senior management team to evaluate existing profitability, risk and establish whether we are fulfilling our contractual obligations.
- Support the PM team to resolve contractual issues on existing contracts, acting to identify and mitigate actual and/or potential problems.
- Develop a culture of teamwork, resilience and high performance, ensure all employees are maximising their potential by enabling coaching, mentoring, performance management, employee development, career planning, leadership development, employee engagement, and recognition.
- Develop and maintain the image and perception of the business and ensure it is known both internally and externally for its exceptional service.
- Be responsible and accountable for the Distribution market’s financial results including control, monitoring and management of overhead cost, expenditure, invoicing, and risk management.
- Develop and maintain close business relationships with clients' senior operational personnel and management teams to align delivery requirements / standards with client expectations.
- Ensure that all personnel comply with Health, Safety and Quality regulations and policies and where possible exceed industry standards.
- Travel as required to project sites and meet with clients during the lifecycle of the project.
