Workdays & Hours: Tuesday – Friday 7am – 5:30pm; Some evening/weekend work required. Rotating on call schedule.

A Sr. Equipment Operator job is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Streets Division. The candidate selected for this position will work with the asphalt team, operating heavy equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Three (3) years of experience in operation of motorized equipment (dump truck, backhoe, pothole patch truck, skid steer, etc.)
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and ability to obtain Tanker Endorsement within six (6) months of hire
  • Must pass drug screen, physical and background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Construction, repair and maintenance of asphalt and concrete roads
  • Concrete work and asphalt work, including operation of heavy equipment
  • Work zone safety practices
  • Experience operating equipment including concrete hand tools, asphalt rake, shovel, saws, compressors, generators, various hand tools, front end loader, backhoe, excavator, skid steer and tools or other equipment related to street maintenance

The Sr. Equipment Operator job responsibilities include: 

  • On-road equipment including operating a dump truck and/ or tractor trailer.
  • Off-road equipment such as backhoe, skid steer, grade-all, and roller.
  • Pavement repair and maintenance.
  • Traffic Control (MUTCD) and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge and use of data entry systems such as VueWorks and/or work order management systems.
  • Work zone set up and job site safety.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
