We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Programmer Analyst II in the Strategic Operations division of the Water Department.
The LIMS section supports the Central Environmental Laboratory by:
- Providing on-site LIMS application support, diagnosing and resolving issues related to all laboratory processes.
- Developing and maintaining queries, parsers, reports, and assisting with deploying LIMS system upgrades and new modules to support evolving business needs.
- Ensuring LIMS processes comply with regulatory agencies such as NELAP, TCEQ, and EPA, including adherence to change control and validation protocols.
This onsite position works closely with the water/wastewater laboratory team. This position is ideal for someone with background in an environmental or clinical laboratory, or a similarly regulated setting, and a solid understanding of sample flow, analytical testing, quality control, and regulatory reporting requirements. Strong laboratory knowledge is essential. The candidate should also be able to write and troubleshoot SQL queries and demonstrate aptitude for learning advanced database concepts, such as complex queries, stored procedures, and backend data processes.
This role offers the opportunity to take increasing ownership of the LIMS program and contribute to process improvement and modernization initiatives within the laboratory. The selected candidate will work closely with senior leadership to ensure long-term system stability, compliance, and strategic growth.
This Position qualifies for the following incentives which is separate from the base pay:
- Sign-On Incentive of $6,500 ***50% paid after the completion of first pay period, 50% paid after the completion of 6 months of employment. ***
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
- Two (2) years of experience supporting, configuring, or developing within a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or similar data management system
- Valid Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of relevant laboratory testing experience
- Experience with water and wastewater laboratory practices, clinical laboratory practices, or equivalent settings, including procedural workflows, and terminology
- Experience with Clinisys or similar LIMS platform
- Experience writing and troubleshooting SQL queries; experience developing stored procedures, functions, or database scripts is highly desirable
- Familiarity with NELAP, TCEQ, EPA or other accreditation/regulatory programs
- Ability to translate laboratory operational needs into technical system solutions and communicate effectively with both laboratory staff and IT professionals
- Strong technical documentation, project management, and training skills
The LIMS Programmer Analyst II job duties & responsibilities include:
- Support day-to-day LIMS operations, system administration, maintenance, and user training to meet operational and regulatory requirements
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, automate processes, and improve overall LIMS efficiency while maintaining regulatory compliance
- Develop and maintain SQL or PL/SQL scripts to support data validation, automation, and backend reporting processes
- Design, configure, and maintain Telerik reports within the LIMS interface for operational and regulatory reporting
- Administer LIMS user roles, access controls, and workflow permissions
- Assist with technical support, including Windows OS, Microsoft Office, and instrument connectivity issues; coordinating with Water IT for escalated support as needed
- Maintaining regular onsite presence to support daily laboratory operations
- Performing other related duties as assigned to support the ongoing success of the laboratory
