About the Position
As the Manager Parks & Environment, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and enhancing the City’s vibrant parks and streetscapes. This is a hands-on leadership position where you’ll oversee every stage of planning, design, and construction for architectural landscape projects, as well as ensure the ongoing care and maintenance of our open spaces—including precious, environmentally significant sites. Your commitment to excellence will ensure our Business Unit runs smoothly and transparently, meeting all statutory obligations, city policies, and the highest industry standards.

You’ll lead from the front—driving strategic and operational initiatives, championing good governance and robust risk management, and ensuring effective financial and resource stewardship. By engaging closely with the community and key stakeholders, you’ll help deliver Council and organisational goals, making a real, positive impact on the places and people that make our City unique.

Key Responsibilities
The duties of the Manager Parks & Environment are various:

  • Lead the strategic planning, budgeting, and reporting for the Business Unit, contributing to both corporate and place-based initiatives.
  • Provide specialist advice on parks, reserves, and sustainability, while seeking external funding and grants for priority projects.
  • Ensure all projects and operations align with legislation, regulations, and Council policies, with robust risk management and compliance practices.
  • Oversee the planning, design, construction, and ongoing maintenance of parks and streetscapes, ensuring effective asset management systems.
  • Set clear performance objectives, provide coaching, and foster a positive workplace culture in line with City values, addressing conflicts and performance issues promptly.
  • Manage human, financial, and physical resources efficiently, ensuring budgets are met and procurement delivers value for money.
  • Engage with the community and stakeholders, maintaining high service standards, effective communication, and strong cross-unit collaboration.
  • Prepare management reports and Council submissions, represent the Business Unit in forums, and act for the Director Infrastructure as required.
