Job Description:
The Solar O&M Technician I is responsible for supporting the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of commercial and utility-scale ground mounted solar PV systems. This entry-level field position assists with preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, monitoring support, and site inspections to help maximize system performance, availability, and safety. The Solar O&M Technician I works under the direction of the Lead Solar O&M Technician and follows established procedures and requirements for safety, company standards, and customer requirements.
This role is designated as a safety-sensitive position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with routine preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance/replacements of solar equipment, including but not limited to: trackers, PV panels, disconnects, inverters, transformers, and DAS/SCADA components.
• Assist with additional inspections, including but not limited to: Site security, fencing, vegetation, and safety-related items.
• Assist with warranty related items with EPC and/or manufacturer.
• Assist with drone flights.
• Assist with documentation and reports related to: safety (observations, JSA, incidents), daily reports, manufacturer reports, and CMMS tickets/work orders.
• Respond to scheduled and unscheduled service calls, including nights and weekends as needed.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to: lockout/tagout, arc flash, fall protection, and PPE requirements.
• Follow established NERC requirements.
• Maintain company assets, such as: laptop, tools, testing equipment, and PPE.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, subcontractors, and customers.
• Travel to other sites as needed for support.
Must Haves:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• 0–2 years of experience in solar, electrical, construction, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
• Basic understanding of electrical safety and hand/power tool use.
• Ability to read and interpret site Engineering drawings, maps, and equipment manuals.
• Reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Live within a 45-minute drive of location stated above.
• Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
• Ability to follow written and verbal procedures/instructions.
• Good problem-solving and observation skills.
• Basic computer skills, including email, mobile apps, and digital work order systems.
• Ability to work independently and part of a team on routine tasks.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• Willingness to learn and grow within the industry.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, bend, kneel, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.
• Ability to pass both pre-employment and random drug testing.
