Compliance Officer
Job Overview
As Compliance Officer, you will ensure that Colbert Holdings and its subsidiaries, including the family office, finance, accounting, property development, and hospitality clusters, operate in full compliance with applicable Mauritian laws, regulatory standards, and best international practices. The role requires close coordination with management and regulatory authorities to maintain a robust compliance framework across the Group.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all applicable Mauritian legislation and regulatory frameworks, including:
- Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act (FIAMLA) and relevant regulations
- FSC AML/CFT Handbook and guidelines applicable to licensed family office activities
- Companies Act 2001 for corporate governance and statutory compliance
- Data Protection Act 2017 for the safeguarding of personal and client data
- Directives, notices, and reporting obligations from the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU)
- Tax compliance requirements under the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA)
- Where relevant, adherence to Bank of Mauritius (BoM) guidelines in respect of regulated financial activities
- Develop, update, and implement internal compliance policies and procedures across all business clusters.
- Conduct customer and counterparty due diligence and enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD) and maintain up-to-date KYC records.
- Monitor transactions, identify potential suspicious activities, and file Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) with the FIU where appropriate.
- Act as primary liaison with the FSC, FIU, MRA, and other regulatory bodies during inspections, audits, or requests for information.
- Provide compliance support to the accounting, finance, hospitality, property development teams and family office, ensuring group-wide adherence to statutory obligations.
- Train and raise awareness among employees on AML/CFT, data protection, tax compliance, and ethical business practices.
- Prepare periodic compliance reports for senior management and the Board, highlighting risks, findings, and recommendations.
- Identify compliance risks and propose corrective action plans to mitigate exposures.
- Any other compliance-related duties assigned by management.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in compliance, AML/CFT, or regulatory roles, preferably within financial services, corporate, or diversified groups.
Key Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Mauritian legislation (FIAMLA, FSC guidelines, Companies Act, Data Protection Act).
- Familiarity with compliance tools such as World-Check, LexisNexis, Google Search or equivalent.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and high ethical standards.
- Strong communication skills with ability to engage with regulators and management.
- Proven ability to manage compliance frameworks across diverse business clusters.
Reporting Line
The Compliance Officer will report directly to the Group Board of Directors and maintain a functional reporting line to the CEO for oversight of compliance and AML/CFT matters.
