Job Overview

Our Mission

At constellr, we're harnessing the power of space to solve one of Earth’s greatest challenges: climate resilience & security in a changing world. Our thermal satellite constellation delivers the most accurate land surface temperature data on the market, equipping commercial players, governments, defence agencies, and global institutions with the thermal intelligence they need to make strategic decisions– from national security and infrastructure to agriculture and climate resilience.

As a fast-scaling company with offices in Brussels, Freiburg, Munich, Washington and Toulouse, our multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and strategists is building the future of space-based Earth observation.

Your Role: As our Satellite Tasking Engineer, you will be scaling and optimising how we plan satellite tasking to deliver maximum value.

You will lead the long-term optimisation of our imaging plan, focusing on what imaging requests we accept, how we prioritise them, and how we structure them before they reach the live mission planning system. This is a highly technical, cross-functional role at the intersection of mission planning, commercial strategy, and operational readiness. You'll play a critical part in ensuring we make the best use of our satellite resources—not just from a volume perspective, but from a value and impact standpoint.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate all incoming imaging requests (from customers, scientific partners, and internal teams).

  • Identify technical constraints and potential conflicts between competing requests.

  • Classify and prioritise requests based on flexibility, importance, and feasibility over time.

  • Make recommendations on whether and how requests should be accepted, adapted, or renegotiated.

  • Perform mission-level simulations to understand how imaging opportunities evolve.

  • Use orbital modeling, conflict boxes, and AOI mapping to assess the performance of trade-offs.

  • Quantify risks, conflicts, and satellite capacity utilisation.

  • Help develop strategies to optimise imaging success rates across product lines.

  • Lead weekly pre-planning meetings to align new imaging demands with strategic capacity.

  • Participate in monthly review sessions to evaluate recent outcomes and identify underperformance.

  • Work closely with Satellite Operations, Calibration-Validation, Product and Commercial teams to align expectations and resolve conflicts early.

  • Prepare accepted imaging requests for execution: fill in missing parameters, run feasibility checks, and ensure proper structure for downstream handoff.

  • Ensure orders are aligned with both current capacity and long-term constraints before entering the Mission Planning System (MPS).

Location - This position is offered on a hybrid or remote basis in Germany or France - we have offices in Munich, Berlin, and Freiburg or in France, Toulouse - please expect occasional travel for team meetings in Germany.
