ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Work in a team-focused environment collaborating with engineers and designers from multiple disciplines in development of complete site design.
• Read, interpret & apply engineering terminology & symbols.
• Prepare site, foundation and structural designs from general instruction and/or preliminary sketches or diagrams.
• Produce, maintain and modify 3D designs of grading, foundations, structures, supports, drainage systems and other civil or structural elements of energy infrastructure systems.
• Create 3d surfaces, grading objects, alignments, profiles and sections in Civil 3D.
• Produce 3d models and details of concrete and structural steel designs.
• Produce civil drawings & deliverables including site plans, grading plans, foundation location plans, profile and section views, foundation details, etc.
• Produce structural details & deliverables such as steel bolted connections, grating, rails, base plates, welding, steel member details, etc.
• Generate cut/fill tables.
• Produce swept path analysis to ensure vehicle and equipment access in accordance with project requirements.
• Import and export various 3d formats in support of project needs
• Create and maintain project Navisworks models for team review and collaboration.
• Works primarily under the guidance and direction of a Civil Engineer, Senior Designers, and/or the Design & Drafting (D&D) Coordinator.
• Adhere to company, client and industry design and drafting standards.
• Exercise discretion & judgment and apply design principles to meet project challenges.
• Peer review technical drawings.
• May be asked to assist in guidance, direction and/or training of other designers.
• May lead Designer I or Drafters on project-specific needs, under the direction and guidance of the D&D Coordinator or Senior Designers.
• Attend and contribute to design review meetings as required.
• May be asked to travel to field project locations with other designers and/or engineers to make field sketches, take dimensions,
as-built assemblies, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Communicate effectively and provide regular status updates. Keep drawing lists and Teams tasks up to date.
• Strive continually to complete all assigned tasks on time & within allocated budget.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
· Duties are largely performed in an office.
· Office work may include prolonged seated tasks, extended keyboarding, and use of computer screen.
· May be requested to work overtime and weekends.
· Position requires travel (expected to be less than 20%); valid driver’s license and acceptable DMV record required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use stairs, use hands, reach, talk and hear.
· The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Demonstrate the ability to perform all key requirements of a Civil Designer I.
• Ability to solve complex problems and strive for innovative approaches to the design maturity process.
• Advanced skills using AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk family of products for 3D modeling and drafting.
• Proficiency with Revit or other structural 3D software preferred.
• Working knowledge in the field of energy infrastructure design.
• Experience and working knowledge in site layout.
• Experience working in multi-discipline projects.
• Fluent computer/internet skills, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook.
• Initiative in learning new skills and solving problems, and ability to adapt to changing needs quickly.
• Ability to adhere to company and industry design and drafting standards.
• Ability to communicate within a dynamic design team, often with contacts in other offices or locations.
• The ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios & proportions to practical situations.
• Steel detailing experience preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
• Bachelor or Associates degree in a related field or applicable certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter curriculum.
• Two to five years of experience developing complex 2D and 3D designs in a related field, or equivalent knowledge.
