Reporting to the County of Grande Prairie’s Health and Safety Supervisor, our Field Health and Safety Advisor collaborates with field employees, lead hands, and supervisors to provide guidance and direction on County health and safety policies, practices, processes, and legislative requirements. Supporting the implementation of County health and safety programs, this role is responsible for conducting site visits, incident investigations, and return to work processes, while demonstrating the County values of being transparent, trustworthy, collaborative, and respectful.
This position involves an evening and weekend on-call function, on a rotating schedule, to respond to significant safety-related incidents as required.
Daily tasks include:
• Proactively and reactively responding to and providing advice on compliance and procedures consistent with the County’s health and safety program, Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and other applicable authorities.
• Maintaining current knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, issues and trends both internally and externally.
• Responding to inquiries, concerns and investigations related to health and safety.
• Partnering with front-line field employees, lead hands, supervisors and contractors to identify and control potential and actual worksite hazards.
• Attending safety meetings, providing input, delivering key messages and presenting on various health and safety topics.
• Supporting noise management and hearing conservation programs by conducting environmental noise assessments.
• Leading incident investigations, completing reports, maintaining records and providing coaching to managers and supervisors.
• Supporting employee accommodations and return-to-work processes by participating in disability management programs.
• Assisting in the development of strategic health and safety plans in support of operational initiatives and municipal programs.
• Supporting the implementation of hazard controls and corrective actions, as identified through hazard assessments and incident investigations.
• Working with employees to prepare organizational and departmental safe operating procedures.
• Delivering training and orientations to new employees and seasonal staff.
• Performing inspections and system audits.
• Monitoring field compliance with health and safety procedures.
• Encouraging and guiding employees towards completion of digital health and safety documentation.
