About the role
The Partnerships & Communications Coordinator will integrate with the broader team to cultivate our volunteer community, oversee our internship program, and spearhead our communications & social media strategy. This highly collaborative position is a member of Covenant House New York (CHNY)’s Development & Communications department, and will coordinate volunteer opportunities in conjunction with internal stakeholders, including MINDS Mental Health, CovWorks, and the Youth Development departments, as well as our parent company, Covenant House International (CHI). Working closely with the VP and Director of Strategic Partnerships, the Coordinator plays a pivotal supportive role in coordinating and sharing key moments for CHNY externally. This position leads CHNY’s multi-channel communications strategy, including social media, newsletters, CHNY’s website, one-pagers, and other assets. The Coordinator’s content creation will highlight our mission, amplify volunteer engagement, and drive meaningful calls to action. By fostering relationships, the Partnerships & Communications Coordinator will build a pipeline for our individual volunteer opportunities, Peer-to-Peer events, and in-kind giving campaigns. A critical priority of this role is to foster relationships with incoming volunteers and interns while ensuring child safety rules are followed in conjunction with CHNY’s Compliance and People & Culture departments. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Development & Communications and works collaboratively across the Development and Communications department to support the team’s work.
What you'll do
- Volunteer & Internship Administration
- Lead community volunteer engagement opportunities, integrating multiple key stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, and youth participants, to ensure an inclusive and impactful experience
- Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Partnerships & Development
- Coordinator to design activity plans and procure materials for youth-facing and kit packing events.
- Work closely with the Partnerships & Development Coordinator to maintain inventories of on-site supplies for art events, holiday decorating, and other initiatives.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all volunteers and interns, while closely collaborating with CHNY’s People & Culture and Compliance teams to enforce child safety and protection policies
- Maintain and update administrative files for volunteers/interns to ensure compliance with the People & Culture and Compliance teams.
- Cultivate a talented pipeline of interns to support the organization by developing a strategic plan with universities, colleges, and other recruitment partners.
- Review and assess community volunteer partnerships and program proposals in alignment with CHNY’s Youth Development team.
- Partner with CHNY Program staff and CHI Development teams to strategically place volunteers and liaise with program staff leads to ensure seamless execution of volunteer events.
- Facilitate orientation and provide ongoing support to volunteers and interns.
- Support the Partnerships & Development Coordinator in tracking active volunteer/intern activities and hours.
- Support with Volunteer Hub additions and adjustments as needed, in collaboration with the Partnerships & Development Coordinator.
- Provide in-kind donation administrative support as needed.
- Event Collaboration
- Define annual seasonal plans with guidance from the VP and Director of Strategic Partnerships.
- Collaborate on plans and their execution with CHNY Programs teams and CHI. (Events include: Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Mother’s Day, NYC Pride, Summer BBQs, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc.)
- Support communications for CHI collaborative initiatives to ensure impactful execution, working closely with the Director of Strategic Partnerships
- Coordinate program planning and workshop development for CHNY’s Annual Youth Art Show in collaboration with partner organizations, individual artist volunteers, and Youth Development.
- Assist the Director of Strategic Partnerships and CHI’s Events team with Art Show logistics, including cataloging artwork, preparing youth artist statements, and designing event collateral.
- Work closely with the Partnership & Development Coordinator to mobilize our community’s support of in-kind needs.
- Play a key role in supporting CHNY’s Holiday Elf program and gift planning, in conjunction with the Director of Strategic Partnerships, Partnership & Development Coordinator, and the CHI Development team.
- Curate volunteer & donor recognition opportunities with support from the Development & Communications team
- Host site visits and presentations for volunteers and community groups.
- Engage in other Development-related activities, as needed.
- Social Media & Communications
- Drive community involvement through meaningful communications designed to engage supporters and highlight upcoming volunteer opportunities.
- Working with the VP of Strategic Partnerships, execute a social media and communications plan aimed at generating new external partnerships and deepening existing relationships.
- Draft and design monthly internal & external newsletters, as well as other high-impact external communications.
- Draft and send all-staff communications.
- Collaborate with CHI’s website team to update the website, including adding photos and written content.
- Design creative ways to showcase partnership appreciation, including collecting quotes, creating graphics for promotional materials, and drafting notes of appreciation.
- Draft and create graphics for one-pagers that showcase volunteer opportunities, in-kind donation needs, thank you notes, in-kind pitches, and other assets to support partner communications.
- Coordinate Covenant House teams to gather photos of our youth and staff using responsible, trauma-informed practices for external communications.
- Collect CHNY media assets and stories to share for CHI related-campaigns.
- Research new external partnership opportunities in collaboration with the VP of Strategic Partnerships and the Director of Strategic Partnerships.
- Participate in partnership calls and drive the execution of follow-through tasks and related projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- 2+ years of experience in non-profit administration required (with preference given to
- Development, Communications, and/or Volunteer experience.
- Experience drafting and editing social media content for a nonprofit organization is preferred.
- Experience using Canva is preferred.
- Excellent judgment, problem-solving skills, and a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work diplomatically and effectively within a team to achieve desired outcomes.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Knowledge of communications software such as Canva, Sprout Social, and Mailchimp is preferred.
