About the role


Reporting to the Manager of CovWorks-Shelter, the Career Preparation Facilitator is responsible for providing instruction to youth via in-person or virtual.  The facilitator will help youth meet necessary goals and prepare them for employment, postsecondary coursework, GED preparation, and/or vocational training. 


What you'll do


(Responsibilities to include but are not limited to the following) 

  • Prepare lesson plans and course materials for face-to-face and online instruction that maximize student learning job readiness areas: mock interviewing, resume writing, etc. 
  • Evaluate student progress regularly, with an emphasis on life and interview skills. 
  • Maintain a roster of 10 students for each class. 
  • Employ appropriate and diverse teaching and learning strategies – i.e., individual, group, hands-on and contextualized instruction as well as lecture and discussion.  Incorporate instructional technology (i.e., internet, software programs, laptops, and/or SMART Board) when available and appropriate. 
  • Provide counseling and academic guidance to youth as needed to achieve academic and career goals. 
  • Review course content and materials as well as youth evaluations and make recommendations to Supervisor for course revision and/or development. Collaborate with Supervisor and/or other departments to review, evaluate and, if necessary, revise program. 
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, pre and post-test hours and progress. Submit final rosters according to established procedures and deadlines. 
  • Implement best practices for the retention and recruitment of students. 
  • Adhere to institutional policies and procedures.  Consistently enforce rules concerning behavior as outlined. 
  • Attend and actively participate in team meetings and professional development training.  
  • Serve on committees and task forces as assigned. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 1-2 years' experience working with disadvantaged youth. 
  • Knowledge of effective strategies, curriculum, and instruction to support all youth. 
  • Professional oral and written communication skills English, including academic report writing. 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders and youth. 
  • Must be knowledgeable of multiple software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and the internet. 
  • Must have a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and dependability. 
  • Bi-lingual [English/Spanish] a plus.
