Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Manager with extensive experience in tax credits, particularly R&D credits as expanded under the “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act”, as well as robust experience in accounting methods, cost recovery, and technical tax analysis.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical command, the ability to lead complex projects, and the confidence to advise clients, manage engagements, and contribute to business development initiatives. Experience within a public accounting firm is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Credits Expertise
Lead engagements related to federal and state tax credits with a strong focus on R&D tax credits and credits modified under the Big, Beautiful Bill.
Conduct detailed tax credit studies, review documentation, and ensure accurate credit calculations.
Analyze client operations and expenditures to identify eligible tax credit opportunities, even going back several years to find eligible tax credits not claimed.
Stay current on legislative developments affecting tax credits and proactively advise clients.
Accounting Methods & Cost Recovery
Conduct and manage accounting method reviews and assessments, including revenue recognition, expense recognition, fixed asset capitalization, and inventory-related methods.
Assist with and lead cost segregation studies and tax depreciation analyses to maximize tax savings.
Prepare, review, and support the filing of Form 3115 – Application for Change in Accounting Method.
Provide quality assurance, engagement review, and exam (IRS) support on accounting method and cost recovery issues.
Research complex technical issues, evaluate case law, review Internal Revenue Code sections and regulations, and prepare written reports and recommendations.
Client Consulting & Advisory
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, communicating complex tax matters clearly and effectively.
Provide strategic tax planning recommendations to optimize credits, deductions, and accounting methods.
Assist clients through audits, examinations, and regulatory reviews.
Manage multiple engagements simultaneously while delivering superior client service.
Business Development
Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and drive new business, especially related to R&D Tax Credits.
Contribute to proposals, presentations, thought leadership, and marketing initiatives.
Network within the firm and externally to build relationships and support practice growth.
Develop and cross-sell additional service lines such as cost segregation, accounting methods, and consulting engagements.
Leadership & Team Management
Supervise, coach, and mentor staff involved in tax credit and accounting method engagements.
Review staff work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm and regulatory standards.
Ensure deliverables meet deadlines and engagement budgets.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
At least 2 years of experience at the Manager level, specifically in tax credits and/or accounting methods.
Experience working within a public accounting firm is mandatory.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
Hands-on experience with CCH Tax and Accounting Software.
Prior experience performing technical tax research, analyzing case law, and interpreting the Internal Revenue Code and Treasury Regulations.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client engagements and lead client service teams.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF tools.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to travel and work at client locations as needed.
Preferred
Master’s Degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field.
Experience conducting cost segregation studies, depreciation analysis, and accounting method planning.
Prior involvement in business development or revenue-generating activities.
