Senior Specialist Solutions Engineer - Data Science Engineer
Job Overview
As a Specialist Solutions Engineer (SSE) - Data Engineering, you will guide customers in building big data solutions on Databricks that span a large variety of use cases. You will be in a customer-facing role, working with and supporting Solution Architects, that requires hands-on production experience with Apache Spark, pipeline orchestration and data science expertise.SSAs help customers through evaluations and successful production planning for their business intelligence workloads while aligning their technical roadmap for the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform.
As a deep go-to-expert reporting to the Specialist Field Engineering Manager, you will continue to strengthen your technical skills through mentorship, learning, and internal training programs and establish yourself in the data engineering/data science speciality - including pipeline design, data modelling, winning competitive evaluations, architecture design and enterprise data governance..
The impact you will have:
- Provide technical leadership to guide strategic customers to successful implementations on big data projects, ranging from architectural design to data engineering to model deployment
- Architect production level data pipelines, including end-to-end pipeline load performance testing and optimization
- Become a technical expert in an area such as data lake technology, big data streaming, or big data ingestion and workflows
- Hands-on industry data science expert, leveraging common machine learning and data science tools, i.e. pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, etc.
- Build and maintain production-grade cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) infrastructure that supports the deployment of ML applications
- Assist Solution Architects with more advanced aspects of the technical sale including custom proof of concept content, estimating workload sizing, and custom architectures
- Contribute to the Databricks Community
What we look for in Data Engineering & Data Science Skills:
- Experience in a customer-facing technical role with expertise in the below:
- Software Engineer/Data Engineer: data ingestion, streaming technologies - such as Spark Streaming and Kafka, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and debugging Spark or other big data solutions
- Data Science Engineer: Build use cases that use data from different industry verticals
- Building data pipelines using big data technologies such as Spark/Delta or Hadoop
- Ability to design, build, and deploy production applications that combine data pipelines, ML/AI models
- Working knowledge of MLOps
- Maintain and extend production data systems to evolve with complex needs
- Graduate degree in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Operations Research, etc.) or equivalent practical experience
- Pre-sales or post-sales experience working with external clients across a variety of industry markets, or looking to learn and develop in a customer-facing technical role as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Production programming experience in SQL and Python, Scala, or Java.
- Experience with Public Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Ability to travel up to 30% when needed
