WHAT'S THE JOB

Working at National Defence project sites, the HVAC-R & General Maintenance Technician is responsible for diagnostics, preventative and corrective maintenance, installation, and repair of HVAC-R and related building systems. This includes refrigeration equipment, boilers, heating systems, BAS controls, life safety devices, and associated facility equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform planned preventative and reactive maintenance on HVAC and mechanical systems including HRVs, hot water tanks, boilers, furnaces, smoke and CO detectors, and air conditioning systems.
  • Conduct filter changes, coil cleaning, belt and pulley replacements, bearing and pump seal repairs, combustion testing, balancing, and system adjustments.
  • Diagnose and repair refrigeration and HVAC equipment, including leak detection and system testing.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, safety standards, TSSA requirements, and company procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop pre-work safety and job plans.
  • Review and manage assigned work orders using CMMS/work order software.
  • Estimate time and materials required for repairs and coordinate material ordering with planners.
  • Transport tools and materials to job sites as required.
  • Maintain professional and courteous communication with clients, contractors, vendors, and colleagues.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians and apprentices.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read mechanical, electrical, and control drawings.
  • Working knowledge of building automation, life safety, electrical, and environmental systems.
  • Strong organizational and task management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively under time constraints.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Calm and professional demeanor in high-demand situations.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be eligible to obtain federal security clearance.
